Sources: Some currency exchange shops in Herat closed in protest

Sources in Herat report that several exchange shops in the city’s currency exchange market have been closed in protest following a Taliban directive requiring a substantial security deposit.

According to the sources, the Taliban have mandated that each money exchanger deposit 6.6 million Afghanis (approximately $93,000) with the bank as a security measure.

Previously, sources informed Amu that the Herat exchange market, known as “Khorasan Market,” was closed by the Taliban on Monday. However, some money exchangers indicated that only those who could not afford the required deposit had closed their shops in protest.

This move follows a similar action by the Taliban, who have also banned street money changers from operating in Sarai Shahzada in Kabul.
