German FM says refugee offenders have lost right to protection

Annalena Baerbock, Germany’s Foreign Minister, stated that refugee offenders have forfeited their right to protection, referencing several violent incidents involving Afghan citizens.

Baerbock referred to the German Chancellor’s statement on the deportation of Afghans, acknowledging that the issue of offenders cannot be resolved simply by deporting them back to Afghanistan or Syria. She expressed concern about returning offenders to the Taliban, noting that Germany has yet to develop a plan for such situations.

Last Wednesday, the German Chancellor reiterated his commitment to deporting refugee offenders from Afghanistan and Syria.

In mid-June, German police shot and killed an Afghan man after he fatally attacked a compatriot and wounded three people watching the televised opening game of the Euro 2024 soccer tournament in eastern Germany, according to police reports.

A similar incident occurred earlier when an Afghan citizen attacked participants at an anti-Islam protest in Mannheim.
