KABUL, Afghanistan — More than 4,000 Afghan migrants were deported from Iran and Pakistan on Saturday, according to the Taliban-run refugee ministry.

In a statement, the ministry reported that Iran expelled 3,504 Afghan migrants, while Pakistan deported 729. Among those deported, 397 entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing, and 332 through Spin Boldak.

Additionally, 1,307 migrants returned via the Islam Qala border in Herat, and 2,197 entered through the Pul-e Abrisham crossing in Nimroz province.

This mass deportation follows Pakistan’s earlier refusal to heed United Nations calls to halt the expulsion of undocumented Afghan migrants. However, Pakistan has agreed to delay the deportation of migrants holding Proof of Registration (POR) cards.

Sources indicate that Pakistani police conducted raids on Afghan nationals’ homes in Islamabad’s B-17 sector, detaining many who lacked proper documentation.
