Pakistan, Iran deport 9,730 migrants to Afghanistan in four days

The Taliban-run Ministry of Refugees announced that Pakistan and Iran have forcefully deported at least 9,730 Afghan migrants over the past four days.

According to the ministry’s statement, migrants from Iran returned through the Silk route in Nimroz and Islam Qala in Herat, while those deported by Pakistan entered via the Spin Boldak and Torkham crossings. The ministry reported that 95 families, comprising 532 individuals, returned through the Torkham crossing, and 152 families, including 821 individuals, returned via Spin Boldak over the past three days.

Additionally, 4,797 individuals came back to Afghanistan through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat, while another 3,580 migrants entered from the Silk route in Nimroz.

Last week, UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi visited Pakistan and met with Afghan migrants and Pakistani officials. He urged the Pakistani government to halt the deportation of Afghan migrants. However, Pakistan’s foreign ministry stated that the deportation of “undocumented” Afghan migrants would continue.
