Afghanistan falls to India in first Super 8 match of T20 World Cup

Afghanistan lost its opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 to India by 47 runs.

India won the toss and opted to bat first. Despite losing opener Rohit Sharma early in the powerplay, India capitalized on the initial overs. Although Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant were dismissed after hitting a few boundaries, Suryakumar Yadav’s 53 off 28 balls propelled India to a total of 182.

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan delivered a standout performance, taking his first T20 international wicket against India and finishing with impressive figures of 3 for 26.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz began Afghanistan’s innings with promise but was caught by the keeper in the second over off a delivery from Jasprit Bumrah. Azmatullah Omarzai was the top scorer for Afghanistan with 26 runs off 20 balls. The team managed to score 134 runs, losing nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
