KABUL — The Taliban-run Meteorological Department has issued a warning for heavy rain and potentially fatal floods across 18 provinces in Afghanistan.
In a statement, the department announced that heavy rains and floods are expected on June 7 and 8 in the provinces of Badakhshan, Takhar, Baghlan, Panjshir, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Kapisa, Parwan, Kabul, Maidan Wardak, Bamyan, Daikundi, Ghazni, Logar, Nangarhar, Paktia, and Khost. The forecast predicts rainfall ranging from 15 to 40 millimeters in different areas.
This warning follows recent reports from the United Nations indicating that more than 350 people have died in recent flash floods, which have also damaged hundreds of homes.
