Afghanistan: 52 people flogged in public by Taliban in Sar-e-Pul

Taliban flogged in public dozens of individuals at Sar-e-Pul City’s stadium in northern Afghanistan on Tuesday, sources confirmed.

A day earlier on Monday, June 3, the Taliban governor’s office in Sar-e-Pul asked residents in a statement to gather at the stadium on Tuesday to witness the “punishment” of 52 individuals.

Sources said that women were also among those lashed in public by the Taliban.

Since December 2022 after the Taliban leader’s decree, Taliban has lashed in public hundreds of individuals, a move that has sparked harsh criticism from human rights organizations. However the practice has continued.

On Monday, June 3, Taliban flogged in public a man in Parwan province in central Afghanistan.
