France is committed to preventing further escalation in the conflict between Israel and Iran, French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Monday.
In an interview with BFM TV and RMC radio, Macron expressed concern about the potential for increased hostilities.
“We are all worried about a possible escalation,” he said.
Macron outlined France’s multifaceted approach to the crisis: “We condemned the initial acts, took steps to intervene, and now we will do everything we can to prevent further escalation. We aim to convince Israel to not respond with further escalation but to isolate Iran. We are working to convince regional countries of the threat Iran poses, increase sanctions, pressure its nuclear activities, and ultimately find a path to peace in the region,” he explained.
The tension escalated when Iran fired hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel on the night of April 13, retaliating for a suspected Israeli airstrike on an Iranian consulate in Syria on April 1.
Reiterating his call for moderation, Macron emphasized, “We will do all we can to prevent things from flaring up and escalating further,” urging Israel to focus on diplomatically isolating Iran rather than exacerbating the conflict.
