The Taliban-run Foreign Ministry in Afghanistan released a statement Thursday, calling the recent attacks between Iran and Pakistan alarming and urging both countries to exercise restraint.
“Since the region is now breathing a sigh of security and stability after imposed wars and long instability, both countries should work to strengthen the stability of the region,” the Taliban statement read.
The Taliban called on Iran and Pakistan to resolve their issues through diplomatic means.
Iranian officials reported that at least nine people were killed in Pakistan’s early morning attacks on Iran. Ahmad Vahidi, Iran’s Interior Minister, informed the media that three women, four children, and two men, all foreign nationals living in a border village, died in the attack. He stated that all the deceased were Pakistani.
Meanwhile, Nasser Kanaani, the spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, condemned Pakistan’s attack on Sistan Baluchistan. Kanaani announced that Iran is summoning the charge d’affaires of Pakistan’s embassy in Tehran to the Foreign Ministry to officially protest and seek an explanation.
