RAFAH, Gaza — Palestinians displaced by recent fighting in Gaza have sought refuge in a tent camp in Rafah, in the enclave’s south, as of Monday. The conflict has uprooted most of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents.
Residents were seen baking bread in outdoor ovens and constructing new tents, even as smoke billowed from the skyline near the camp. The ongoing hostilities have left many homes and vital infrastructure in ruins, causing severe shortages of food, water, and medical supplies.
The Gaza health ministry reported that Israeli strikes in the past 24 hours resulted in 73 Palestinian deaths and 99 injuries.
The current conflict began with a Hamas attack on Israeli towns on Oct. 7, leading to approximately 1,200 Israeli casualties and 240 hostages, according to Israeli sources.
