United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken stressed the pivotal role of the upcoming G7 foreign minister talks in Tokyo as they converge in the midst of the Gaza crisis. During a bilateral meeting with Japan on Tuesday, Blinken highlighted the need for the G7 nations to unite to address this pressing issue.
Before engaging in discussions with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa, Blinken paid a courtesy visit to Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
The Group of Seven (G7), consisting of affluent nations such as Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, alongside the European Union, will assemble in Tokyo on November 7-8. The agenda for the talks encompasses discussions on critical matters, including the Israel-Gaza crisis and Russia’s conflict in Ukraine.
During her news conference on Tuesday, Kamikawa disclosed that the G7 was in the process of organizing a virtual meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, slated to coincide with the Tokyo meeting.
Kamikawa also mentioned that G7 foreign ministers are actively crafting “some sort of statement” to be issued following the discussions in Tokyo, though she refrained from disclosing the specific contents of the statement.
