At least 98 have died due to an extreme heatwave in northern parts of India in the last three days, local media outlets reported.
India Today reported that as many as 54 people have died in Uttar Pradesh and 44 others lost their lives in Bihar state.
According to reports, at least 400 people were admitted to a district hospital in the Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh in the last three days “with complaints of fever, breathlessness, and other health complications.”
Citing health officials, the report added that fans, coolers, and air conditioners have been arranged in the hospital to prevent the risk of heat stroke for patients and staff.
Meanwhile, the number of doctors and paramedic staff has also increased due to the influx of patients.
“With large numbers of patients flooding the hospital, we are now facing a shortage of stretchers,” an official told India Today.
The maximum temperature has recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius in Ballia on Friday, according to Indian Meteorological.
Local media outlets reported that the temperature was 4.7 degrees above normal in the area.
As many as 44 people died due to extreme heat in Bihar state in the last 24 hours, the report added.
According to the report, Bihar’s capital, Patna, recorded a maximum temperature of 44.7 degrees Celsius on Saturday, with some places at 45.1 degrees Celsius.
