Pakistan’s former prime minister Imran Khan has condemned the alleged “abduction” of Advocate Uzair Bhandari, a highly respected senior lawyer of the country’s Supreme Court.
Khan on Saturday shared a photo of Bhandari, voicing concerns about the country heading towards “full-blown martial law.”
According to Khan, Bhandari had recently met with him to discuss the issue of military courts, which they planned to challenge through legal means.
“On his way out he (Bhandari) was abducted by those who cannot be named because they are above the law,” Khan said.
“We are headed towards a full-blown martial law,” he tweeted.
This comes as Pakistan’s military has allegedly begun cracking down on Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) members following last month’s protest over Khan’s arrest.
Many key PTI leaders were forced to either leave the party or step down from political activities after thousands of the party’s members were arrested.
Imran Khan also said his Principal Secretary Azam Khan was missing since Thursday evening.
“Anyone who was perceived to be close to me is targeted,” he added.
Early on Friday, unidentified armed men opened fire on the ex-governor of Lahore Latif Khosa in the city, injuring his driver.
“I strongly condemn the attack on ex-governor Latif Khosa’s house last night just because he has been critical of the fascism unleashed on our nation,” Khan tweeted on Friday.
