At least eight students were injured in an apparent grenade attack near a dormitory at Kabul University on Friday night, according to students and other sources who spoke with Amu.
Three students living in the university dormitory said the explosion occurred at about 9 p.m. on a path between the dining hall and the dormitory, as students were heading to eat.
The students said the blast was caused by a hand grenade. Several other sources, including a journalist and another student, also confirmed that an explosion had occurred and said multiple students were wounded.
The injured students were taken to Aliabad Hospital near the dormitory, according to students at the university. Three dormitory residents told Amu that the conditions of the wounded were improving and were not considered life-threatening.
Witnesses said that after the injured students were taken to the hospital, other residents of the dormitory were ordered to return to their rooms and were not allowed to leave.
It was not immediately clear who carried out the attack or why the students were targeted. No group has claimed responsibility.
Taliban have not commented on the explosion or provided details about any investigation.
