A Taliban spokesman has claimed that Pakistani artillery shelling in eastern Afghanistan killed four members of a family and wounded three others early Thursday.

Hamdullah Fitrat, Taliban deputy spokesman, said in a post on X that the shelling took place around 4 a.m. in the village of Sadqo in the Alisher-Terezai district of Khost province.

Fitrat said residential homes were hit in the attack and that women and children were among the casualties.

He also said Pakistani forces fired artillery shells toward border areas of neighboring Kunar province at the same time, though no casualties were reported there. One residential house was destroyed by mortar fire, he said.

Pakistani officials have not commented on the claims.

Clashes between Pakistani forces and the Taliban along the border have continued for more than two weeks. The United Nations has said that 56 civilians were killed in the violence between Feb. 26 and March 5.

Both sides have reported heavy losses in the fighting, though the claims could not be independently verified. Taliban say 327 Pakistani soldiers have been killed, while Pakistani authorities say more than 580 Taliban fighters have died in the clashes.
