Pakistani fighter jets struck Bagram Air Base late Friday night, according to local sources in Parwan province, who described hearing several powerful explosions from the area.

The sources told Amu TV that three aircraft carried out the attack on the airfield, once the largest US military base in Afghanistan.

Details about damage or casualties were not immediately available, and Taliban had not publicly commented on the reported strike.

Earlier, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s chief spokesman, confirmed the presence of Pakistani aircraft over Kabul and said Taliban forces had fired what he described as defensive shots at the planes.

Bagram served as the centerpiece of the American military presence during two decades of war in Afghanistan. Since the withdrawal of US forces in 2021, the Taliban have used parts of the sprawling complex, including detention facilities, according to local sources and rights groups.

The reported strike comes amid escalating clashes between Pakistan and Taliban that started late on Thursday, Feb. 26, with both sides exchanging claims of cross-border attacks and air operations in recent days.
