Afghanistan on Saturday formally launched the Afghanistan Premier League Twenty20 (APL T20) at a ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, unveiling the tournament’s logo, proposed window, venue and number of teams, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) said.
The launch event brought together ACB officials, commercial partners, players and invited guests, marking the official start of preparations for the league, which is expected to feature franchise-based teams and international participation.
ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf said the APL T20 was designed to create new opportunities for Afghan cricketers and strengthen the country’s cricket ecosystem, while also attracting global interest in Afghanistan’s rapidly growing cricket profile.
As part of the event, the ACB revealed the official logo of the Afghanistan Premier League, describing it as a symbol of ambition and a new chapter for the sport in the country. Souvenirs were also exchanged between the board, its partners, players and guests to mark the occasion.
The ACB said further details, including the final schedule, participating teams and player draft process, would be announced in the coming weeks.
Afghanistan has emerged as a competitive force in international cricket in recent years, with its players featuring prominently in global T20 leagues, and officials hope the APL will provide a platform to showcase local talent while boosting commercial investment in Afghan cricket.
