The 2025 International Open Badminton Tournament was launched in Kabul on Thursday, featuring athletes from Iran, Uzbekistan, Syria and Afghanistan.
The week-long competition brings together four players from Uzbekistan, one from Iran, one from Syria and 10 Afghan athletes, who will compete in singles matches, according to organisers.
The event is one of the few international sporting competitions held in Afghanistan in recent years.
Athletes in Kabul said they hoped the tournament would strengthen the sport and provide Afghan players with exposure to international competition.
