The T20 World Cup warm-up match between Afghanistan and Pakistan was called off on Wednesday due to uninterrupted rain at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Chasing a target of 155, Pakistan, who won the toss and elected to bowl first, were 19/0 in 2.2 overs before rain stopped play.

Earlier, Afghan skipper Mohammad Nabi hit an unbeaten 51 as Afghanistan overcame a top-order collapse to post a total of 154 for six against Pakistan.

The match was not without its drama however.

Making his much-awaited return from a knee injury during a warm up match against England last week, Pakistan’s pacer Shaheen Afridi struck twice in as many overs to give Pakistan a flying start.

He dismissed Afghanistan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Hazratullah Zazai.

Gurbaz however received a foot-crushing yorker which not only led to him being carried off the field but also being taken to a nearby hospital for X-rays, reports indicated.

Photographs posted on social media a few hours after the incident showed Pakistan’s Afridi and Babar Azam with Rahmanullah Gurbaz at the stadium after the game.

Gurbaz appears in the photographs to be wearing a protective moon boot on his left leg.

No further details around his injury have yet been revealed.
