Afghanistan secured their second consecutive win against Zimbabwe on Friday, sealing the three-match T20 series with a convincing seven-wicket victory in Harare.
Chasing a target of 125, Afghanistan reached 129 for 3 in just 18 overs. Ibrahim Zadran anchored the innings with a measured 57 off 51 balls, while Azmatullah Omarzai finished the job with an unbeaten 25 from 13 deliveries, striking five boundaries in a brisk cameo.
Zimbabwe, who chose to bat first after winning the toss at Harare Sports Club, struggled to build momentum and were bowled out for 125 in 19.3 overs. Captain Sikandar Raza top-scored with 37, but lacked substantial support from the middle order. Late contributions from Tadiwanashe Munyonga (19 off 12) and Brad Evans (12 off 8) pushed the total past 120.
Afghanistan’s bowlers delivered a collective performance, with Rashid Khan leading the attack. The captain returned figures of 3 for 9 in three overs, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fareed Ahmad, and Abdullah Ahmadzai each claimed two wickets.
Despite taking early wickets, Zimbabwe’s bowlers couldn’t defend the low total. Brad Evans picked up two wickets, including the dangerous Gurbaz and Rasooli, but Afghanistan’s depth in batting proved too much.
With this win, Afghanistan leads the series 2–0. The final T20 is set to be played later this week, where Afghanistan will aim for a clean sweep.
