Sources: Drones spotted patrolling skies over Kabul

Several drones have been seen flying over Kabul since early Saturday morning, mainly in the northern parts of the city near Bagram air base in neighboring Parwan province, local sources told Amu.

It remains unclear who is operating the drones or why the flights are taking place. Taliban have not commented on the reports.

Residents reported similar drone activity over Bagram district late Thursday, the sources said.

The sightings come days after the Taliban imposed a nationwide internet and telecommunications blackout for nearly 48 hours, cutting off the country from the outside world and disrupting air travel, banking, and aid operations. Taliban later offered no clear explanation for the shutdown, which drew condemnation from the United Nations and human rights organizations.

Security tensions have occasionally flared in and around Bagram, once the largest U.S. military base in Afghanistan before the 2021 withdrawal. The area has since remained a sensitive zone under Taliban control.
