Taliban defense minister visits Qatar

Taliban defense minister Mohammad Yaqoob Mujahid has traveled to Doha, Qatar, where he met with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Khalifi to discuss “bilateral relations,” Taliban spokespersons said.

During the meeting, Mujahid expressed “sympathy and support” for Qatar, he added.

This is not the first time Mujahid has visited Qatar. In March 2024 he attended the Doha International Maritime Defense Exhibition and Conference (DIMDEX) alongside other senior Taliban military leaders.

Mujahid is the eldest son of Mullah Omar, the late founder of the Taliban, and has held several senior positions both before and after the Taliban takeover in 2021.
