Taliban morality enforcers from the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice burned about 95 audio devices and entertainment equipment in eastern Nangarhar province, local sources told Amu TV.
The items, which included musical instruments and children’s toys, were set on fire Monday, Sept. 15, in Jalalabad after being seized from shops and wedding ceremonies, the sources said.
Taliban authorities described the items as “musical instruments,” according to residents. Witnesses said the destroyed equipment included various sound systems and other devices commonly used by young people for recreation.
The Taliban have not issued an official statement on the incident.
Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban have banned most forms of music and entertainment, carrying out repeated raids on shops, events and private gatherings to seize instruments and sound systems. Rights groups say the restrictions are part of a broader effort to impose their strict interpretation of Islamic law on Afghan society.
