A Russian aircraft carrying humanitarian aid for earthquake victims in eastern Afghanistan arrived in Kabul on Friday.

According to the Russian Embassy in Kabul, the 20-ton shipment includes food supplies such as flour, cooking oil, and canned beef.

The embassy said the aid was sent to support the people of Afghanistan and help mitigate the impact of the deadly earthquake that struck the country’s eastern provinces on September 1.

Russian officials added that the delivery is part of broader humanitarian cooperation between the two countries, and additional aid shipments are expected in the coming days.

Sunday night’s quake in the eastern province of Kunar has left over 2,200 people dead and more than 3,600 others wounded, according to Taliban figures.
