The meeting, scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26 in Islamabad, has already stirred widespread reactions. According to sources, participants will discuss human rights, the situation of women and girls, and Afghanistan’s political future.
Taliban have said they will not issue an official reaction at this stage. Pakistan has also not formally commented on the meeting.
The Afghanistan Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry meanwhile protested the inclusion of its director, Salma Yousufzai, on the list of invitees to the meeting.
In a statement, the chamber said Yousufzai’s name was added to the list “without official permission” and that she had not confirmed participation in the event. She warned that the unauthorized listing could cause confusion and present a “misleading portrayal” of the role of national institutions.
