Members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Afghan Taliban are confiscating red caps associated with the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) in Paktia province, local sources told Amu TV.
The sources said the cap seizures are taking place in the Khairkot district, where TTP members have also threatened residents for possessing them.
According to the accounts, TTP fighters have been patrolling Khairkot’s main bazaar, stopping young men for body searches, taking their red caps, and threatening and insulting them.
Sources added that Pakistani Taliban members have previously confiscated red caps from residents and detained or tortured many young people suspected of supporting PTM.
The Taliban have not commented on the reports.
Taliban have rejected TTP’s presence in Afghanistan, but UN monitoring group has reported that the group has at least 6,000 fighters in the country.
