UN to establish regional center for Central Asia and Afghanistan

ALMATY, Kazakhstan — The United Nations has announced plans to establish a regional center in Almaty focused on Central Asia and Afghanistan, aimed at promoting sustainable development in the region.

Kazakhstan’s presidential press office confirmed that the center will be located in Almaty, the country’s largest city.

The U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday formally approved a resolution authorizing the center’s creation, according to a U.N. statement.

The initiative is intended to support regional stability and economic development, with a particular focus on Afghanistan, which faces ongoing humanitarian and governance challenges.
