AI must serve humanity, Macron says at Paris summit

PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized the need to harness artificial intelligence for human progress, stating that the challenge is to master the technology while ensuring it serves humanity.

Speaking on Tuesday, as he opened the second day of the AI Summit in Paris, Macron called the event an opportunity to foster dialogue and align AI advancements with collective progress.

“Artificial intelligence represents a profound technological transformation,” he said. “The challenge is to master its capabilities and implications across multiple sectors while ensuring it serves humanity.”

Macron highlighted the importance of global cooperation in shaping AI’s future, pointing to the presence of leaders and experts from India, the United States, China, Europe, Africa, and Latin America, as well as entrepreneurs, researchers, and civil society representatives.

The summit has brought together heads of state and technology executives to discuss how to embrace AI safely and responsibly, amid concerns that excessive regulations could stifle innovation.
