Two killed, three injured in traffic accident in Balkh

MAZAR-E-SHARIF, Afghanistan — Two people were killed, and three others injured, in a traffic accident on the Mazar-e-Sharif-Hairatan highway in Balkh province on Sunday, according to a statement from the Taliban.

The accident occurred when a passenger vehicle of the “Pasu” model collided with a “Mazda” truck. The injured were transported to medical centers for treatment and are currently under medical care, the statement said.

Taliban attributed the incident to driver negligence.

Traffic accidents remain a significant issue in Afghanistan, claiming hundreds of lives and injuring many more each year. Experts cite driver negligence, poorly maintained roads, and a lack of traffic signage as the primary factors contributing to the high rate of accidents.
