ASHGABAT — Senior officials from China and Turkmenistan reaffirmed their commitment to promoting stability in Afghanistan during a bilateral meeting, Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The meeting, held between Turkmen Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev and China’s Special Representative for Afghanistan Yue Xiaoyong, highlighted the importance of multilateral platforms in fostering Afghanistan’s sustainable reconstruction and improving its socio-economic conditions.
According to the statement, the two sides also discussed preparations for the fifth meeting of foreign ministers from Afghanistan’s neighboring countries, which is scheduled to take place in Turkmenistan.
“They reaffirmed that Turkmenistan and China will continue their comprehensive support for Afghanistan’s economic reconstruction based on the principles of friendship and good neighborliness,” the statement said.
Regional diplomacy
Yue Xiaoyong’s visit to Turkmenistan follows his recent trip to Pakistan, where he held extensive talks with Amna Baloch, Pakistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, and Ahmad Naseem Waraich, the country’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Afghanistan and West Asia.
During those discussions, both sides emphasized the critical role of neighboring countries in ensuring a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry.
China and Turkmenistan’s diplomatic efforts are part of a broader regional push to address the challenges in Afghanistan, including economic hardship and security concerns following the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
