A deadly attack struck the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) near Ankara on Wednesday, resulting in casualties, according to Turkish officials. Local media reported a loud explosion followed by an exchange of gunfire at the site, adding to the confusion surrounding the incident.
“A terrorist attack was carried out against the TUSAS facilities in Kahramankazan, Ankara. Unfortunately, we have martyrs and injured people,” Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.
While the exact cause of the explosion and the subsequent gunfire remained unclear, some reports suggested that a suicide attack may have been involved. Emergency services swiftly responded to the scene, as reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency.
Television footage showed a damaged entrance gate and a clash in a nearby parking lot, where security forces appeared to be exchanging fire with unidentified assailants.
TUSAS, a key player in Turkey’s defense and aerospace industries, is involved in several major projects, including the development of KAAN, the country’s first domestically produced combat aircraft. The company’s facilities in Kahramankazan are considered a critical site for the nation’s defense infrastructure.
Officials have yet to provide further details about the number of casualties or the nature of the attack, as investigations continue.
