Taliban officials hold trade talks with Kazakh representatives

A Taliban delegation, led by Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s minister of industry and commerce, held discussions with Kazakh officials to strengthen trade relations.

According to a statement from the Taliban-run Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the meeting focused on expanding trade ties, increasing transit routes between China and Afghanistan through Kazakhstan, improving transport logistics, and reducing tariffs on goods transported via rail.

The talks were held in Almaty, with Serik Zhumangarin, Kazakhstan’s deputy prime minister, in attendance.

The meeting coincided with an exhibition showcasing Afghan products in Almaty. However, Afghan traders and industrialists continue to face significant challenges, including banking restrictions due to international sanctions, limited export facilities at Afghan border points, and high costs for importing raw materials.

Afghan businesses have cited these obstacles as major hurdles to trade and domestic production.
