Pakistani officials have reported a significant rise in exports to Afghanistan, with figures for September 2024 showing a 94 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to local media.
In September 2024, Pakistan exported $12.8 million worth of goods to Afghanistan, nearly doubling the $6.6 million recorded in September 2023. The August 2024 figures also showed growth, with exports totaling $8.9 million.
Officials stated that Pakistan’s exports to Afghanistan increased by 59 percent over the first quarter of the current fiscal year, from July to September.
The increase comes despite recent moves by Pakistan to raise customs duties on Afghan products, a development that has sparked complaints from Afghan traders. They have long criticized Pakistan for imposing obstacles that hinder cross-border trade.
