Iranian media have reported that the death toll from recent floods in the country has risen to 15, including 14 Afghan nationals and one Iranian. The fatalities occurred following the flooding of the Halil River in the southern province of Kerman.
Ahmad Bolandnazar, the governor of Jiroft, said that search and rescue operations, involving 16 teams from the Red Crescent, local volunteers, and municipal authorities, began on Sunday and concluded with the recovery of all 15 bodies.
According to Iranian officials, the Afghan victims were workers at a local orchard, and among the dead were children who had entered the river. The floods were triggered by heavy rainfall in the region, authorities said.
Earlier reports had placed the death toll at seven, including six Afghan nationals.
