Heavy rains, storms injure seven in Afghanistan’s Laghman province

Seven people were injured after heavy rainfall and storms struck Laghman Province in eastern Afghanistan, Taliban said.

Ubaidullah Alkozai, the head of the Taliban’s Disaster Management Department in Laghman, reported that several homes and trees were damaged as walls collapsed under the force of the storms.

One of the injured is in critical condition, the report said. The storm also caused significant financial damage to local residents and public infrastructure.

This follows a similar event in August, when heavy rains and storms in neighboring Nangarhar Province led to the deaths of more than 35 people.

Afghanistan is highly vulnerable to extreme weather events, ranking as the sixth most climate-change-affected country in the world, according to the United Nations.
