KABUL, Afghanistan — The Taliban-controlled education department in Bamiyan province has compelled nearly 3,000 students to participate in a ceremony marking the anniversary of the former Afghan government’s collapse, sources in the province told Amu on Tuesday.

The students are being prepared to perform songs and recite essays at the event, which the Taliban refer to as a celebration of their “victory.”

The ceremony, scheduled for August 15, will see students dressed in special attire as part of the proceedings.

Additionally, sources revealed that 150 male school principals from Bamiyan have been summoned to Kabul for the occasion.

There is speculation that senior Taliban officials may travel to Bamiyan to attend the ceremony, which is expected to take place in the Sar Asyab area, near Bamiyan’s main square.

Since seizing power three years ago, the Taliban have imposed severe restrictions on the freedoms and rights of women and girls across Afghanistan.
