Pakistan army arrests former ISI chief Faiz Hameed

The Pakistan Army has arrested Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Faiz Hameed, the former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), ahead of his court-martial related to a housing scheme scandal, the military announced on Monday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the army, stated that the arrest followed a Supreme Court-ordered inquiry into complaints against Hameed regarding the Top City housing case.

“Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry was undertaken by the Pakistan Army to ascertain the correctness of complaints in the Top City Case made against Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed (Retd),” the ISPR said.

The statement added that “appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed (Retd) under the provisions of the Pakistan Army Act.”

The military reportedly established an inquiry committee in April to investigate allegations of misuse of authority against Hameed, who was considered highly influential during his tenure as ISI chief from 2019 to 2021.
