Iran seizes 198 kg of drugs near Afghanistan border

Iranian authorities reported that border forces seized 198 kilograms of drugs in Taybad, a city near the Afghan border, according to the country’s media.

Sardar Majeed Shuja, the commander for Iran’s Razavi Khorasan Province, informed reporters that the operation was based on intelligence regarding drug imports into the country.

Razavi Khorasan Province shares a 302-kilometer border with Afghanistan, and Taybad is situated 225 kilometers southeast of Mashhad, the provincial capital.

This development coincides with recent remarks by Russia’s ambassador to the U.N., who on Friday criticized the Taliban’s efforts to combat narcotics in Afghanistan as insufficient.
