The death toll from a fire in the western Indian state of Gujarat has risen to 27, according to local media, as rescuers searched Sunday for one person who was still missing.
Television footage showed excavators digging through charred debris and grieving family members at a hospital after the massive fire gutted the TRP Game Zone on Saturday.
A police official at the local civil hospital said some of the bodies were charred beyond recognition. Many of those who died in the fire were children, a government official said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel promised strict action against offenders when he visited the incident site Sunday morning.
Television reports said two people had been detained by Rajkot police in connection with the incident.
