VARANASI, India — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi filed his nomination for re-election Tuesday from the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, as the country moves into the fifth phase of its general election.
Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and an astrologer who determined an auspicious time for the filing based on Hindu rituals, Modi earlier participated in rituals and prayers at the banks of the Ganges River and a Hindu temple.
Varanasi, one of two seats Modi secured in the 2014 and 2019 elections, will vote on June 1 during the final phase of the Lok Sabha election.
