ZABUL, Afghanistan — A man was publicly flogged in Zabul province on charges of adultery, the Taliban’s supreme court said Tuesday.
The court’s statement, issued on Tuesday, specified that the man received 39 lashes.
The punishment was administered in the presence of local Taliban officials in Shahjoy district, reflecting the Taliban’s continued use of corporal punishments such as flogging, amputation, and execution since their return to power in Afghanistan.
In the past two years, the Taliban have publicly flogged hundreds of individuals across various provinces for a range of offenses, according to statements from the regime.
