The 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) kicked off Monday and will run through March 22.
This year’s session focuses on “accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and enhancing institutions and financing from a gender perspective.” The review theme centers on “social protection systems, access to public services, and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.”
The CSW, a principal global intergovernmental body dedicated exclusively to promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women, operates under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). It was established by an ECOSOC resolution on June 21, 1946.
Tasked with advancing women’s rights, documenting women’s realities worldwide, and establishing global standards for gender equality and women’s empowerment, the CSW plays a pivotal role in international efforts to promote gender parity.
