A four-day polio vaccination campaign began Monday in 21 provinces of Afghanistan.
The Taliban-run Ministry of Public Health said in a statement the campaign would last three days.
According to the ministry, nearly 7.6 million children under 5 will receive the polio vaccine during this period.
The last polio vaccination campaign was conducted in January in some of the country’s provinces.
Afghanistan has reported six new polio cases this year, all in Nangarhar, raising concerns about the virus spreading. The most recent case was reported in the Khogyani district of Nangarhar on Sept. 28, 2023.
