Iran is prioritizing the fencing of its border with Afghanistan, a top Iranian military official said on Friday, highlighting it as a key security measure.
Iranian media reported ongoing fencing efforts along 74 kilometers of the country’s northeastern border.
“Ensuring security is the responsibility of the military. An enduring security is sometimes provided through drone and CCTV cameras and sometimes with physical fencing of the borders,” stated Kioumars Heydari, commander of the Ground Forces of Iran’s Army. “So, others cannot disrupt us on what we should do in our borders.”
However, Heydari emphasized that Iran has no intentions of threatening or seizing the soil of neighboring countries.
The rise of the Taliban to power has escalated concerns among regional countries about the potential spread of insecurity and terrorist activities from Afghanistan.
