Faizabad, the capital of northeastern Badakhshan province in Afghanistan, was hit by two earthquakes early Wednesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).
The first earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.4, occurred at 12:28 a.m. local time at a depth of 80 kilometers, about 126 kilometers east of Faizabad. The second quake, measuring 4.8 in magnitude, struck at 12:55 a.m. local time, approximately 100 kilometers east-southeast of Faizabad, at a depth of 140 kilometers.
There have been no immediate reports of property damage or casualties. The NCS provided coordinates for the quakes: the first at latitude 36.90 and longitude 71.95, and the second at latitude 36.90 and longitude 71.65. Further details are awaited.
