The European Union has pledged €142 million for migrants returning from Pakistan and Iran amidst an escalating humanitarian crisis in the country.
To announce the allocation of the aid, the head of the EU’s mission in Afghanistan, Raffaella Ludovica, met with Taliban officials in the Ministry of Refugees in Kabul on Wednesday.
Taliban said in a statement that the EU delegation was asked for cooperation and assistance in providing shelter, tents, and food to returnees.
The European Union has previously allocated €61 million to address the needs of Afghan migrants and others expelled from Pakistan.
UN figures show that more than 400,000 migrants have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan since mid-September. Moreover, at least 2,000 migrants return from Iran on a daily basis over the past few weeks.
