Iran expands ties with Central Asia as President Raisi travels to Dushanbe and Tashkent

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi who is on tour to Central Asian countries has been welcomed in Dushanbe by his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rakhmon on Wednesday.

Rakhmon praised the positive development of trade and economic relations between the two brotherly nations while Raisi said he was pleased to visit the Tajik capital for the second time.

He also expressed hope to further strengthen bilateral ties and discuss regional issues of importance for both Tehran and Dushanbe.

Speaking after the talks, Raisi said that Iran and Tajikistan more than other countries care about the people of Afghanistan and their future.

The two leaders said they shared a common view on the situation in Gaza. President Raisi described the conflict between Palestinians and Israel as a problem for the entire world and humankind.

He called for an immediate end of the blockade of Gaza Strip and urgent delivery of humanitarian aid for the Palestinian people.

Iran and Tajikistan signed and agreement on visa-free travel and vowed to promote the Persian language. After Dushanbe Raisi will travel to Tashkent to attend a summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) which brings together five former Soviet republics of Central Asia as well as Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkey.
