Iraqi prime minister meets with Iran’s Raisi to discuss Gaza conflict

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani on Monday held discussions in Tehran regarding the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinian militants, particularly Hamas.

Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi, expressed Iran’s support for any measures taken by Islamic nations “to prevent the ongoing acts of aggression” by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.

Al-Sudani’s visit followed a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Sunday, as Washington intensified its diplomatic efforts with countries in the region whose populations have voiced concerns over Israel’s actions in Gaza.

Notably, Iraqi armed groups with affiliations to Iran have issued threats to target U.S. interests using missiles and drones should the United States intervene to support Israel in its conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
