Biden acknowledges progress in Gaza humanitarian pause efforts

U.S. President Joe Biden confirmed on Saturday that there has been substantial progress in the pursuit of a humanitarian pause in Gaza.

Responding to reporters’ questions, Biden expressed his approval with a thumbs-up gesture as he departed St. Edmond’s Catholic Church following Mass, during his weekend visit to his home state of Delaware.

This comes in the wake of an October 7 surprise attack by gunmen from the Palestinian militant group Hamas, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 individuals and the abduction of over 240 people. In response, the Israeli military initiated a comprehensive offensive involving air strikes, artillery barrages, and ground operations in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. According to Palestinian authorities, this offensive has claimed the lives of more than 9,400 people.

The United States, while maintaining unwavering military and political support for Israel, has also been urging its ally to take measures aimed at minimizing civilian casualties and addressing the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
