Two people were killed and 25 others were wounded when a 22-wheeler trailer, carrying Afghan families, overturned near the Grand Trunk Road in the Attock area of Pakistan’s Punjab province, as confirmed by officials.

Reports from Pakistani media indicate that the trailer, which had five Afghan families on board, was en route from Sangjani to Afghanistan. A police official, quoted by Dawn News, stated that the vehicle overturned due to a burst tire.

The Hazro Town police in Attock issued a statement identifying the deceased individuals as 55-year-old Salman Khan and 60-year-old Bibi Gul. The statement further mentioned that the bodies and injured individuals were promptly transported to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Hazro. Additionally, four critically injured persons were transferred to Rawalpindi for medical treatment.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of Pakistan’s recent decision to set a deadline of November 1 for over 1.7 million undocumented migrants from Afghanistan to leave the country.

As part of this decision, thousands of Afghan nationals have been deported from Pakistan daily over the past few days. According to a statement by the Taliban, at least 8,000 people were deported on Saturday, October 28.
